Cullen ‘Mangan Vineyard’ Sauvignon Blanc Semillon 2009, Margaret River WA
From the Biodynamic vineyards of Cullen, this wine exhibits complex aromas of minerals, citrus fruits and hints of dried straw and is certainly one of the best examples of the style made in the country. The palate is lively, but offers more texture than one might expect, and the finish is long, silky and satisfying.
Yabby Lake Chardonnay 2009, Mornington Peninsula VIC
This wine is a benchmark for the new style of Australian chardonnays with finesse, elegance and underlying power. It has a lovely depth of fruit and complexity, but with softer aromas of white peach and stone fruits. The elegant, balanced palate is dominated by crisp varietal fruit and integrated nutty oak. This medium bodied wine is well structured with a persistent crisp seamless finish.
Coldstream Hills Pinot Noir 2010, Yarra Valley VIC
Benchmark cool-climate Pinot Noir that displays hallmark varietal characters and style. The wine is made using a variety of handling and fermentation techniques, mostly borrowed from Burgundy. As a result, the wine has a fruit-driven palate, a supple, silky mouthfeel and pronounced length.
Howard Park ‘Leston’ Cabernet Sauvignon 2009, Margaret River WA
Only particular vineyard sites are chosen for this single region wine from Margaret River. The 100% Cabernet Sauvignon bursts with upfront sweet fruit flavour of considerable length which is tempered by fir tannins. Aromas of raspberry, dark cherries and blackcurrants intermingle with faint mintiness which fits the classic Margaret River mould.
Jamsheed ‘Garden Gully’ Syrah 2010, Great Western VIC
Named after the French term for the grape variety shiraz, the textured and layered palate shows old vine concentration, plums, dark cherries and earthiness/leatheriness. Large, chalky mouth-coating tannins and fresh herb and stem character finish long and lively. Unfettered, ‘expressive’ and intricate!
